As a landlord or property manager, you owe it to your tenants to provide the safest and most comfortable living space. They depend on you to deal with any issues quickly and conveniently. Even though smaller problems may be annoying for you to deal with, taking care of them as soon as possible is always the best policy.
Relatively minor issues around your property — such as drafty windows or leaky fixtures — can snowball into larger problems if left too long. Along with making your tenants unhappy, these irritations could lead to severe water damage, mold or cracks in your foundation.
Even if you’re not as active as you used to be, it’s relatively easy to fix many common problems around your property. For instance, adding weather stripping under doors can resolve chilly floors in the winter. A quick spray of lubricant is usually all that’s needed to fix squeaky door hinges. Cleaning the gutters will help prevent water from pooling around the foundation. Other repairs, such as adding insulation to fix drafty rooms or installing storm windows, may require professional help if you’re not as physically capable as you once were. In any event, correcting issues like these around the building can prevent big headaches for you and your tenants later.
